2. You can now multi-select items in the filter (we'll be adding functionality to that a bit later)

New Joins Screen Active

A prototype of the new Joins Edit screen for Filters is in this new build (only grab it from the Beta fresh).

This one uses the "half moon" approach suggested by Tom and Chick. The wording within the moons has not been defined.

Build 264 now Active

Build 264 fixes a few things with the Ask At Runtime Date Filters but there are still some issues with working in the filter screen, so be warned.

Also note that the new Delete button on the Request Editor is NOT functional.

New Version Updated

Lots of new fixes in here but most importantly, the Build # is now shown on the Screen caption so it's easier to note what it is. More detailed notes will be added a bit later.

The latest builds are now available.

Updates to Joins Screen

The Joins screen (not editor) has been updated. The Bitmap dialog is gone and a summary dialog now shows all of the Join conditions being used.

Updates to the OM also ensure report information is updated for the variables in the ongoing version.

Download minor updates from http://www.foxfirereporting.com/livedesign/ff80.zip or the entire update from the link on the left.

Updates for Relationship Editor

In the new post, when editing relationships, if you change the alias, it will automatically change the expression to use the new alias!

Also, the "Import File Relationships From Environment" option has now been added to the Relationship Editor for easier access. This makes the Tools screen much easier to work with.

New Update: Cosmetic Changes to Filter and Ask at Runtime Dialogs

The new update posted this morning includes better handling for Ask At Runtime drop-downs. The Cars Color list has now been changed to use the standard Combo List dropdown. When you use the aarcombo as the Filter control and the ffComboAdd  as the Adder class, it will automatically switch the filter control is aarinlistcombo when you use In The List.

Note: These controls currently do NOT support remote connections - that will be forthcoming.

New Request Dialog: Like it or not?

Hey all!

The new Request Dialog was re-designed to make it look more like the Office-style dialog but having used it now for a few months, I'm wondering if it really helps or hinders the entire process.

Please let me know...your vote counts....

Thanks!

Summary Report Functionality

New post fixes problems found with generating Summary Requests with counts and Distinct counts.

Note: with summary requests, you may need to manually choose the sort order.

New Update: Fixes bugs with adding new requests.

New post fixes bugs with creating new requests (there was a duplicate record in FFSTYLEF named Presentation).

Also - new requests that have been grouped now automatically support the default formats. Earlier versions of the update didn't always keep the update format correctly.

Subtle Feature 1 in Foxfire! 8.0: Select Multiple Data Items in Lists

There are quite a few new subtle changes in Foxfire! 8.0 that may not be easily visible so I'll add them as I find them. <bg>

You can now select multiple items in the Data Items dialog and move them over to the Selected list.

You can also change the Width of a data item in an actual report without changing its width in the Data Dictionary. To do this, right-mouse click on the Data item in the Selected List and choose Change Appearance.

Why would you want to do this?

Consider a field like Customer Name which might be 50 characters in length. In your report, you only want it to be 20 characters but there are other reports that need it to be 50. Solution? Just change the length in the Format Appearance dialog and it is respected in the report layout.

New Install Now Available

A new install is available for the Foxfire! 8.0 beta. Please download it from http://www.foxfirereporting.com/livedesign/ff80setup.exe.

This new installation should NOT be used against existing installations (although you can certainly create new preferences, etc).

Instead of the old upgrader approach, we will be including an "Upgrade" menu option that will import existing Foxfire! files from an older directory and update them accordingly.

When updates are posted, they will be posted in both the FF80.ZIP file as well as this new setup so that way, you can either install a brand new alpha or upgrade your older one. But for now, use this to create your new FF80 directory.

Thanks.

Updates to fonts

Foxfire! 8.0 ---- change list of data items so that when data items are used in any current request, they appear in bold. When not used, they appear in normal text.

Use a Verdana or Tahoma font so it looks more like a List (a la Outlook, etc)
